The Elevator Speech

Hi my name is Gregory Higashi.  I am from Salinas, CA.  I am the middle child of an older sister and younger brother.  I attended a chartered dyslexic school called Chartwell for seven years.  I work at the SPCA for Monterey County's summer camps for five years.  I love volunteering and working with kids.  I learned American Sign Language 1, 2, and 3 and love performing songs, like I've Gotta Feeling, Last Friday Night, Telephone, etc.  I love TV, whether it's comedy, reality or drama, but my over all favorite is the Ellen DeGeneres Show.  She is my idol and role model making me happy and relaxed when I am stressed and need a break.  I dream of becoming a math teacher, either for middle school, high school, or college.  I love doing selfless acts and teaching kids about respect and compassion.  If kids are shown by example of how to achieve in life and to be passionate about their dreams, then they would be able to help create a better future for everyone. I love watching and reading about inspirational stories, because it proves that there is humanity in society.  If people follow the examples of philanthropic people, then everyone would accept everyone for who they are and not be concerned about who they suppose to be.

  1. That's so cool that you know ASL! I've been trying to learn for awhile, but it's kind of hard to just do by yourself. Maybe I'll come by to practice sometime.

"I hate Ellen DeGeneres" - no one ever.

  2. Passion is something that is too often forgotten in today's society as more and more emphasis is placed on doing more and more, faster. It's important to slow down and take time for stuff that you love as well. And sharing it with others? That's even better.

Excited to be reading your blog, Gregory! (And of course the in-class part. There's that too.)

  3. Greg,
I agree, helping kids become respectful and compassionate members of society will lead to a more peaceful selfless world. And like you said people needn't focus on who they are "supposed" to be, rather who they truly are and what they are passionate about. You're awesome, keep on keepin' on!

  4. I completely agree with the teaching children to be passionate and how to achieve. With your theory on the best learning environment for children, you'll make a highly successful math teacher/professor.

  5. Wow Gregory! You are seriously such an inspiration, you have such an altruistic personality. I have to admit, I LOVE Ellen too! My favorite videos include the ones of her scaring people, here's the link to one of the best ones I've seen if you need a good laugh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Kzy-hk7eOk

  7. I think everyone agrees Ellen is tooo funny! Also, since you want to become a math teacher, I'm sure you're really good and I might ask you to help a girl out since math is not my forte, to say the least.
